WhisperWeb vs Otter vs Fireflies vs tl;dv
Search results for meeting recording transcription mix two jobs: live notetakers that sit in Zoom, Meet, or Teams, and file tools that start after the recording exists. WhisperWeb is the second job. The table below is a dated readout of published plans, not a scoreboard.

Figures checked on 2026-09-10 against otter.ai/pricing, fireflies.ai/pricing, tldv.io/app/pricing, and WhisperWeb pricing. Otter, Fireflies, and tl;dv are trademarks of their owners. Plans change; read those pages before you buy. This table is not a ranking and has no invented scores.
Who this page is for, and who should pick a notetaker
Use WhisperWeb when
- You already have a meeting file, or you can record in this browser.
- You want speaker labels and timestamps without adding a bot to the roster.
- You will read the transcript before anyone treats it as minutes.
- You want TXT, DOCX, PDF, SRT, VTT, or JSON from the same task.
- You prefer per-account credits over per-seat meeting bots.
Pick a live notetaker when
- Otter: you need a bot that transcribes Zoom, Meet, or Teams while people speak.
- Fireflies: you need CRM fields filled from the call, not a file you upload later.
- tl;dv: you want unlimited live recordings and video clips on a free meeting plan.
- None of those jobs are hidden settings on this page. They are different products.
How It Works
Upload Your Recording
Choose a supported file or record in the browser. Speaker detection starts on with automatic count. Set the spoken language and add names you care about. If login interrupts a draft, follow the restoration prompt. A filename cannot reconstruct audio after a refresh.
Review the Result
Progress, errors, and the finished transcript stay here. Replay a passage, rename a speaker label, and search for a decision. A failed summary keeps the successful transcript. Retry that step only. Refreshing a processing task restores its server status.
Export Your Text or Captions
Save edits, then download DOCX, TXT, PDF, JSON, SRT, or VTT. Optional summaries on Pro or Max reuse the saved transcript and do not start a second base charge. The same task appears in My Recordings.
Review Decisions and Action Items
After the transcript succeeds, Pro and Max accounts can request a summary. The model reads the saved text and returns an overview, key points, decisions, and action items. It does not assign work, send messages, or invent a due date. If nobody named an owner, the row stays Unspecified.

| Kind | What was said | Owner | Date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Decision | Harbor Line launch moves to Thursday | The group. No objection was spoken. | Thursday |
| Action item | Ship the Harbor Line checklist | Priya | Wednesday |
| Action item | Reprint the floor signs | Sam | Unspecified |
| Action item | Name a reviewer for Priya's checklist | Unspecified | Unspecified |
Sam named the floor signs and never named a day. Priya named Wednesday and never named a reviewer. Filling those blanks would be a guess. WhisperWeb does not assign work from a silence.

Harbor Line is synthetic owned practice input written for this page. The MP3 is not a transcription-provider output, and it is not a customer meeting. Save the file, then submit it in the tool above if you want a live run. Listening here does not create a task or spend credits.

Each row is the authored script for that beat, timed from the committed MP3. Check Harbor Line, Thursday, and Wednesday against what the model returns. Treat speaker names as labels you type after listening, not as identities the detector already knows.
- 00:00AlexThe Harbor Line launch moves to Thursday. Does anyone object?
- 00:03PriyaEngineering can ship the checklist by Wednesday. I did not name a reviewer.
- 00:08SamOps will reprint the floor signs. No date was given.
- 00:11AlexThen Thursday is the decision. We still need a reviewer for Priya's checklist.
Supported Files and Plan Limits
This page accepts MP3, WAV, M4A, MP4, MOV, FLAC, OGG, WEBM, AAC files, up to 1 GiB and 60 minutes each. Browser recording needs microphone permission. Changing an extension does not convert a file. A Zoom MP4, a Voice Memos M4A, and a WAV from a room recorder are all valid when the bytes are real audio.
Credits follow duration: 0.5 for a clip of 30 seconds or less, then one credit per started minute. The server re-checks size, length, and your remaining balance at submit time. Open plans and usage limits if the estimate is unclear. Speaker labels and timestamps are not plan-gated. Summaries, translation, and chat still require Pro or Max and reuse the transcript you already paid to create.
Overlap, distant mics, and similar voices still need a human pass. Automatic speaker count is a hint. This page is meeting recording transcription for a file you control. It is not a live assistant, a minutes certification service, or local on-device Whisper.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does WhisperWeb join meetings automatically?
No. WhisperWeb does not join Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams. There is no calendar bot and no extra participant. Export the recording from your meeting tool, or capture audio in this browser, then transcribe that file here.
Can I upload a saved meeting recording?
Yes. That is the job this page is built for. Upload a listed format, or record in the browser, then review speakers and text on this URL. Use the general transcription workspace when you need a media URL or the full studio, not because submit is forced there.
Is meeting recording transcription free, and does it run on my machine?
Neither as a default. Processing runs in the cloud against account credits. You start with 5 free minutes after verification. Choosing a file starts nothing; you sign in and submit to begin a run. Check plans and usage limits instead of assuming an unlimited local quota.
What happens if the summary fails after a good transcript?
The transcript stays. Retry the summary step only. WhisperWeb does not charge the base transcription again for that retry. Owners and dates that were never spoken stay Unspecified. The product does not assign work.
Who can open my meeting file later?
Task and download requests require the owning account. Other people cannot use a guessed task id. Create a sharing link only on purpose, and revoke it when access should end. Keep participant consent in mind before you upload.
