How It Works

   Upload Your Recording

   In Voice Memos, open the recording, tap More, then Share, then Save to Files (Apple's current iPhone steps). On Android, use the recorder's Share or Export action. Select that file above. Or click Record here — the browser asks for the microphone only after that click. If you deny the permission, stay on Upload and pick a file instead.

   Review the Result

   Progress, errors, and the finished transcript stay on this route. Play the memo while you fix names, numbers, and the run-on sentences dictation produces. Speaker labels are a draft aid. They do not prove who spoke. A failed run usually needs a fresh export, not another click on the same damaged file.

   Export Your Text or Captions

   Save first, then download TXT, DOCX, PDF, JSON, SRT, or VTT. Unsaved edits do not travel with the file. Optional summary is a later step on the saved transcript for Pro and Max; it does not re-transcribe the audio or charge the base fee again. The same task appears under Recordings.

Export a Voice Memo Before Uploading

This converter never reaches into the Voice Memos app, iCloud Photo-style libraries, or an Android recorder database. If a site claims it will “sync your memos,” treat that as a different product. The steps below follow Apple's published share flow, checked 2026-09-10.

iPhone Voice Memos

1. Open Voice Memos and tap the recording.
2. Tap More, then Share. For a single mixed file, keep the default Rendered option so the export is M4A.
3. Choose Save to Files, pick On My iPhone or iCloud Drive, and save.
4. Come back here and select that .m4a. AirDrop to a Mac, or Mail to yourself, also produces an M4A attachment you can upload from a computer.

Apple documents M4A as the default Voice Memos export. Layered recordings flatten. Spatial Audio becomes stereo. That flattened M4A is what this page expects. If you only have a share-page URL, that is not an audio file — export the attachment.

Android recorder apps

Pixel Recorder, Samsung Voice Recorder, and most OEM apps expose Share or Save to Files. The file is often M4A or MP3. Both extensions are accepted here. WhatsApp or Telegram voice notes are usually Opus in OGG; those extensions are accepted too. This page is still a transcription tool, not a messaging client — you export the note as a file first.

Browser captures are commonly WebM or MP4 audio, which this page also accepts. Safari on iPhone can record in the tab; it still will not open the Voice Memos library for you.

See an Example

The clip is original synthetic speech for a rambling product memo, never a customer recording and never a phone-library dump. It exists so you can hear the Harbor Line pocket-brief script, then practise review and export. It does not demonstrate cloud-model quality. Playing it does not start a paid task.

Reference script and review exercise

Okay, capture this before I forget. Call the Harbor Line sample a pocket brief, not a meeting recap. The first sentence should name the customer, the date, and the one decision they still owe us. The second paragraph lists the three risks we heard on the walk: the loading dock closes at six, the spare badges are still with facilities, and the contractor wants a written go-ahead by Friday. End with the action I will take tomorrow morning: send the one-page brief, attach the original memo, and ask Priya to confirm the dock hours in writing. If this file is still untitled, rename it Harbor Line pocket brief, September tenth.

After a run, confirm “Harbor Line,” “Priya,” and the possessive-free dock hours. Insert a paragraph break ahead of “End with the action,” save, then download TXT and DOCX. Both files should carry that break. The point is spotting dictation mess and checking exports, not scoring accuracy — a clean synthetic clip says nothing about a memo recorded on a windy platform.

When a voice memo needs a written draft

A voice memo is usually a thought you did not want to type. The written draft is useful when someone else has to act, when you need to search a name weeks later, or when the audio is too long to replay. The pictures below are commercial stand-ins for those deliverables, not screenshots of private tasks.

Supported Files and Plan Limits

Uploads here are audio you exported from a phone recorder or captured in this tab: M4A, AAC, MP3, WAV, OGG, Opus, WebM, and MP4 audio. MP4 is listed because some browsers wrap a recording as MP4; a finished video belongs on the MP4 to Text Converter. URL import is not on this page — use the general transcription workspace for a link. Container-only M4A questions belong on the M4A to Text Converter.

Cloud limits are 1 GB and 60 minutes per file, whichever arrives first. Credits follow duration: up to 30 seconds costs 0.5 credit; past that, one credit per started minute. Submission re-checks type, size, duration, and your balance. Optional summary, translation, and chat bill separately on Pro and Max. Check plans and usage limits rather than assuming an unlimited free local run. This page does not run Whisper inside the browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I export a voice memo for upload?

iPhone: Voice Memos → the recording → More → Share → Save to Files, or AirDrop / Mail the M4A. Android: open the recorder, Share or Export, then pick the file above. The upload control cannot see files that never left the recorder app.

Does this access my phone recordings automatically?

No. There is no Voice Memos API integration, no iCloud library crawl, and no Android MediaStore scan. If microphone permission is denied, file upload still works. A remembered filename after refresh is not a restored File object — select the export again.

Is voice memo to text free, and does it stay on my phone?

Neither by default. You start with the account's 5 free minutes, then plans and credit packs. Audio is uploaded for cloud processing. Saved tasks are visible only to the owning account. See the privacy policy before you send sensitive speech.

Where do I find the transcript after I leave?

Under Recordings in the same account, or by reopening this page with the task link. Source page and tool type stay on the record so a memo task does not look like a workspace-only job. Knowing the link does not grant another account access.

How is this different from the M4A converter?
