   Wait for processing on this page, then listen alongside the transcript. Correct names, punctuation, and numbers before saving your edits. If processing fails, read the error before starting a new task; a damaged recording needs a fresh export.

3. 3. Export Your Text or Captions

   Download the saved transcript as TXT or DOCX. For captions, review and save timed cues before downloading SRT or VTT. Changing transcript text does not automatically rewrite subtitle cues; check both when you need both deliverables.

Preparing an M4A Recording

M4A is a container, so the extension alone does not tell you whether the audio inside can be decoded. Keep the original export and avoid renaming another file to .m4a. This page accepts M4A uploads, but does not promise that every AAC or ALAC variant will work.

For an iPhone recording, use the recording app’s share or export action to save an audio file to Files, then select that file above. Export an actual audio attachment rather than a sharing-page URL. If the export is not M4A, use the general transcription workspace for its supported formats.

Use a quiet recording with speech close to the microphone. Overlapping voices, background music, and clipped audio can make words or speaker boundaries difficult to identify. For interviews, review who said each passage; speaker labels are a draft aid, not proof of identity.

Supported Files and Plan Limits

This upload-only page accepts .m4a files up to 1 GB and 60 minutes per file under the shared upload limits. Your balance and account entitlements can impose additional restrictions. The tool checks file size and duration before processing; an extension match does not guarantee decodable audio.

Use it for interview notes, lecture recordings, spoken drafts, and reminders you have permission to upload. Transcription consumes account credits. Additional AI actions use their existing plan and credit rules; downloading a saved transcript does not submit the audio for another transcription.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to convert M4A to MP3 first?

No conversion is required just to select an M4A here. Try the original playable file first. If decoding fails, export it again from the source app, or convert it with an audio application and use the general workspace for the resulting format. Merely changing the extension does not convert audio.

Why will my M4A file not upload?

Check that the file is nonempty, finishes downloading from cloud storage, plays locally, and meets the size and duration limits. An incomplete export, unsupported encoding, expired login, or insufficient credits may stop submission or processing. Read the displayed error and correct the cause before retrying.

Is M4A transcription free and private?

Submission requires an account and available credits; consult your current balance and the pricing page rather than assuming unlimited free use. Audio goes to cloud processing services. Saved task access and downloads require the owning account. Review the privacy policy before uploading sensitive material.

Where do I find my transcript after leaving this page?

Open Recordings in your account. M4A tasks use the same records as the workspace, with their source and tool type preserved. Opening a saved task returns to its tool page. A task link requires the owning account; knowing the link does not grant another account access.

What happens when I sign in on my phone?

Login returns to this tool. The app attempts to retain the selected file temporarily, but browser storage may be unavailable or expire. If asked, select the original file again; a remembered filename is not a recovered upload. Saved tasks can instead be restored from the server.
