OGG Is a Container, Not One Codec
A .ogg file is an Ogg container, and the container does not tell you which codec is inside it. Older Ogg audio is usually Vorbis; the voice notes that messaging apps and browsers produce today are Opus, and they may arrive named .ogg, .oga, or .opus. All three are the same Ogg family, which is why this page accepts any of them instead of insisting on a single extension.
The extension is only an early hint. This page does not decode the stream in your browser before upload; it passes the file to the server, which reads the real container and refuses a file whose audio cannot be opened. Renaming an MP3 to .ogg changes the label and nothing else, and a container with no usable audio stream will not become speech just because the name looks right.
Codec and bitrate shape the result far less than the room did. Opus at a voice-note bitrate is accurate on a close microphone and struggles under music, overlapping speakers, or a phone left on a desk. Compression does not invent words, but it can blur the ones that matter, so replay a difficult passage before you rely on it.

Uploads here are the Ogg audio family: .ogg, .oga, and .opus. The cloud limits are 1 GB and 60 minutes per file, whichever arrives first. A long interview split across several Ogg files becomes several separate tasks. Every submitted part is billed on its own duration, so it is worth trimming dead air before you upload.
Credits follow duration rather than file size: up to 30 seconds costs 0.5 credit, and past that one credit per started minute. Submission re-checks the type, size, duration, and your balance. Optional summary, translation, and chat actions bill separately and need an active Pro or Max subscription. Check plans and usage limits instead of assuming an unlimited free local run; this page does not run Whisper inside the browser.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to convert OGG to MP3 first?
No. Upload the .ogg, .oga, or .opus file as it is. A conversion step would add a generation of quality loss without helping recognition. If the file will not decode, re-export it from the app that produced it rather than renaming the extension.
Is an OGG file always Vorbis?
No. Ogg is a container, and the audio inside is usually Vorbis in older `.ogg` files and Opus in the voice notes WhatsApp, Telegram, and many browsers write today. This page accepts both families and lets the server inspect the real stream instead of judging by the file name. Why was my .ogg file rejected?
Usually the bytes are not a readable Ogg stream: a renamed file, an incomplete download, a payload the demuxer cannot open, or a recording past the 1GB size cap or 60-minute duration limit. Export it again from the source app and upload that file.
Is OGG transcription free, and does it run on my computer?
Neither. The audio is uploaded and processed in the cloud against account credits, and whatever free allowance you hold shows up through your account and plan. Selecting a file starts nothing; you sign in and submit to begin a run.
Where can I find my transcript after I leave?
Under Recordings in the same account, or by reopening this page with its task link. A saved result belongs to the task owner, and knowing the link does not hand another account access. Refreshing before you submit clears the local selection, so choose the OGG file again.
